Norwalk Hospital Is Rated in Top Five Percent of Hospitals Nationally for Clinical Excellence

Hospital is recipient of HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence 2010 along with 15 other national awards and five-star ratings.

Norwalk Hospital today was awarded the HealthGrades “Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence 2010.” According to HealthGrades, a national, independent healthcare ratings organization based in Golden, Colorado, this award was given to only 268 other hospitals nationwide and signifies the top five percent of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.

The award was given to hospitals that had a statistically significantly lower risk-adjusted mortality and lower rate of inhospital complications than all other hospitals, based on an analysis of three-years of Medicare data performed by HealthGrades.

According to HealthGrades, patients treated at a hospital given the “Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence” are, on average, 29% less likely to face inhospital mortality and 9% less likely to suffer an inhospital complication.

“This is a significant, national, health care quality award and places Norwalk Hospital among the leading hospitals in the country for clinical excellence. It is a direct result of our robust, hospital-wide quality of care and patient safety programs, which have been in place for many years,” said Daniel J. DeBarba, president and CEO of Norwalk Hospital. “This award is also a tribute to our physicians, nurses and staff and the emphasis they place on keeping our patients safe and well cared for. The community can come to Norwalk Hospital confident they will receive excellent, high quality and safe care.”

In addition to the HealthGrades  “Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence 2010,” Norwalk Hospital received 15 other leading awards and five-star ratings from HealthGrades, including awards which placed several of the Hospital’s clinical services in the top 10% nationally.
